Bill & Deanie's Trip To Alaska 2012

  June 8th - Day 7 June 9th

Note:  I forgot to add to yesterday’s log that we did setup our generator (1000 w Honda) and watched a movie.  We need a generator with a little more umph though

Today’s leg of the journey was from Charlie Lake, BC to Fort Nelson, BC (231 miles). British Columbia has the highest prices on fuel and boy did we experience it today. We paid $1.51/liter in Fort Nelson, BC. That’s $5.70 a gallon! $160 in the tank!

Road was pretty good on the way to Ft Nelson.  There are rough areas, no real difference than some US roads we’ve been on.  Only saw one bear along the road (no picture).  The day was nice and when we got here it was 70 degrees.

We read in Milepost that oil and gas extraction is going gangbusters in BC.  We certainly saw that today!  There are roads cut into the bush every few hundred feet.  Also we met countless  “mobile home” looking units on the road.  I expect these are offices for the gas/oil development.   All that big development makes for great cell service though! :)

Not many RV’s on the road yesterday.  We met a guy at Charlie Lake from Alberta who was making the loop into Yukon and then back south on the Cassair Hwy. We arrived in Fort Nelson about 3pm and tried to find a place to wash the rig, as it is getting pretty “brown”.  Can hardly see through the windows! Truck wash wanted for 23minutes.  There was a big rig there so we went on to the RV Park.

The RV spot behind the gas station, is Blue Bell Inn and Campground.   They gave us a good price on the site as the restrooms were closed.  We paid $20 for the night which included WIFI, 30amps, water and septic.  We got the fuel there and also did laundry.  Oh and once more American Express rejected Deanie’s card for the fuel. The lady wasn’t surprised. Guess they are getting more and more “fraud alerts” from AE.

(If you don't see the "blue line" grab the map and pull it to the left or right and the line will appear - Also the little minus on the left side zooms you out and the plus zooms you in)

This was our camping spot at the Blue Bell Inn.  It's hard to tell in this picture how dirty everything is getting but I can tell you it is!

I was at the gas station out front of the RV park and I saw this vehicle getting gas.  Tow car was from AK so I guess this was something they went So to pick up.  Kind of your "AK Golf Cart"! ha!
