Bill & Deanie's Trip To Alaska 2012

  July17th July 18

 Overnight at Junction 37 & 1

Drove from Bove Rest Area to Baby Nugget RV Park at Junction 37 & Hwy 1.  Not much to talk about here; smooth in parts with lots of frost heaves, gravel stretches and breaks in between.  .

We stopped at Rancheria Falls and it was the same as in 2001.  They have a very nice 1/3 mile boardwalk that goes to the falls.

We did spot a bear trying to get off of the road.  Poor guy had picked a really bad place, as he was trying to make his way up some really loose gravel.  When I pulled up to get a picture he was slipping back down the hill.  He at one point just kind of stopped and looked our way.  I think he was saying; “How about just moving along so I can find another way to the top”!  So we went on and left him to it.  As we pulled away, I looked in the rear view mirror and it looked like he had finally found the right path and made his way up the hill.

We overnighted in an unimpressive RV Park at the turn to the Cassiar Hwy.

(If you don't see the "blue line" grab the map and pull it to the left or right and the line will appear - Also the little minus on the left side zooms you out and the plus zooms you in)

If you would like to see for yourself what we are seeing, click on the "view Larger Map".  Then go to the street view and get a 360 deg view of the roads we are traveling.  I love that feature!

This is Bennett Lake, the place the where miners built barges to continue up the Yukon river and the gold country.  During the gold rush all  the hilldsides were bare because trees were cut down to build barges.  Sign at lake states:  In May of 1898 more that 7000 boats, rafts and scows past this point in the race to Dawson, the city of gold.

Deanie at head of the boardwalk to Rancheria Falls.  What a great way for everyone to be able to see the falls.  Lot of work by some folks.

Rancheria Falls and me looking "happy" per instructions.
He  got scared as we tried to get a picture.  He just wanted "up"!
